Leon Drake is the pianist and founder behind Piano at First Sight, a boutique live piano service bringing modern music to weddings, private parties and corporate events.
Classically trained with formal studies at the University of Western Australia’s School of Music, Leon blends technical skill with a love for contemporary music.
When not performing, Leon works as a psychiatric nurse, where he continues to witness first hand how music can lift spirits and transform spaces. He recently donated a piano to his ward so patients and staff could share in the joy of music—a gesture that continues to inspire moments of connection whenever he plays.
His own journey with the piano began at 18, sparked by an unexpected gift while working in a nursing home. A resident, moved by his budding passion, entrusted him with a piano that became both an anchor and a compass—an instrument that set him on the path to countless hours of practice, formal study, and eventually, a life dedicated to music.
What began as a simple fascination quickly became a calling, one that would carry him from the nursing home common room to wedding aisles and private celebrations. Today, his repertoire spans everything from Elton John to Beethoven to Taylor Swift, alongside ambient improvisation designed to create atmosphere and connection.
Recent performances have expanded beyond private events to include wellness and community settings, reflecting a growing interest in the therapeutic and restorative qualities of music.
